"Advanced" functions? Questions from a not so advanced user...

Well, I've just started noticing some "advanced" functions of the forum...

First ot all, the thread rating. It appears that every forum user will see it, while I thought that if I rated a thread, I could use it as a "marker" so that it would stick out when I visit a forum section. But it looks like I misinterpreted the function, doesn't it? So, maybe some will find "my" rating unconvenient (or anyone's), so, could it be made a private thingie, or is it OK and nobody minds my "marker ratings"? :oops:

Then, there's the question of the thread options. Call me dumb, but what's the difference between "tracking a topic" and "subscribing to a forum"? The options that follow any of these functions are the same! :scratch:

The ratings is for collective ratings for a topic, everybody sees them and everyone can rate them. :)

The subscribe monitors new posts and replies in the WHOLE forum i.e. 'car chat' whereas 'track' just monitors that particular topic. So you either watch a complete forum (not much point if you ask me) or follow a single topic, one of interest for example.
