Getting quite a few 500 Internal Server errors recently. Tends to be when I'm creating new topics. Happens both at home and work, Firefox at home with IE at work.

It has just taken me about six attempts to reply to a thread. This is what I get at work....

X
Network Access Message: The page cannot be displayed

Explanation: The Web server refused the connection.

Try the following:
• Refresh page: Search for the page again by clicking the Refresh button. The timeout could have occurred due to Internet congestion.
• Check spelling: Check that the Web page address is spelled correctly. The address may have been mistyped.
• Access from a link: If there is a link to the page you are looking for, try accessing the page from that link.
• Contact website: You may want to contact the website administrator to make sure the Web page still exists. You can do this by using the e-mail address or phone number listed on the website home page.
If you are still not able to view the requested page, try contacting your administrator or Helpdesk.

Technical Information (for support personnel)
• Error Code 10061: Connection refused
• Background: The server you are attempting to access has refused the connection with the gateway. This usually results from trying to connect to a service that is inactive on the server.
• Date: 23/06/2008 11:29:53
• Server: WEBFILTER1.paperco.paperlinx.co.uk

Some of these problems are down to your provider and not this server, things like disappearing emails I know aren't the sites fault as it logs all outgoing.

I use 3 separate accounts to test mail and all mine get them, one is BT, one Google and finally a UK2.

Some email providers block certain mail types without telling, some see forum mail as spam etc etc.

The connection refused error is generally a client side issue, it could be your work firewall, could be a port out of service (high use), local routing, traffic.. pc settings.. the list goes on unfortunately! :(

Not meaning to stray oftopic but i thought that the servers were slow when i browsed on the forum at home, but i'm now round at my uncles and the pages load up quickly.

Any suggestions to optimize my browser (IE) to open up the pages quicker as it only seems to be this website that the load times are slow at home ?

They fast tracked my server in the upgrades schedule, should have the latest version of PHP and some optimization by the 21st of July - fingers crossed.

Currently in an email conversation with the provider.

To be honest I'm not sure anything will come of it so I might have to jump ship, I'd rather they just improve things because it's a lot of work for me and would mean more downtime.

The other problem is I have a number on sites with them and they'd all need to move to.

A few years ago these guys were shit hot too! :(
