Hi guys and Gals,

My Name is Toby and i live on the Isle of Man (UK). Im 26 years old and was originally born in Manchester before moving to the island when i was 18. I didnt pass my test till around 4-5 years ago.. i know, i know, i left it a little late but i made up for it :) My cars havce been as follows:

1996 VW GOLF VR6 in mauve- not a great car but sounded awesome
1990 pug 205 1.9 GTI in met black- pocket rocket!!
1994 pug 306 turbo diesel- time i started driving something more economical!!
1990 BMW E30 M3 LHD in met black- tremendous car best i`ve ever owned only sold due to selling for £6k more than i bought it!! (went to the N`ring)
1990 VW Golf GTI G60 SUPERCHARGED LHD- great power and handled like its on rails (went to the nurburgring)
1983 VW GOLF GTI in solid black- a little too raw for me if im honest!
1989 VW GOLF GTI 5DR in white- just a go between
1990 vw GOLF GTI in met black- this one was special little car in immac condition!
1999 Honda Accord Type R....

So as you can see most of my cars are from a german pedigree and the ATR is my first ever jap car!! I`ll be honest i more fell on this car as appose to went out looking for it. It came to mwe with cash in exchange for my last golf. And i must say im converted.

I really look forward to reading some of these sections on the forum i just thought it would be nice to comer and introduce myself first :)

So the car, its a 1999 model in red with cat 1 alarm and aircon, its done 109k, still in original condition with no mods ( except typhoonn induction kit) , on standard alloys with new eagle F1s on the front and nearly new potenzas on the rear, and the interior is pretty mint :)

Is there anything in particular that i need to have checked on the car or anything i need to look out for??

Again hello to you all :)

regards Toby

Welcome fella!

Just keep an eye on the oil as they can use a fair bit esp when vtecing and 5th gear syncho is common prob (you end you loosing reverse too). The autotensioner is prone to failing if it isnt changed with the specified time and it can lead to the cambelt flying off and causing a lot of damage so just make sure the cambelts and tensioners have been changed recently!

That about it to be honest - A lot more fun than the german stuff (i converted recently too) lol

No speed limits - :D :D :D Bet your going to enjoy the ATR where you are !

Edited to make sense lol

Hey kaz, yh I reckon she's due a cambelt soon had one at 62k, and had the box done last year for £850. Yeah no speed limits had a bit of fun over the weekend with her over the mountain road but nothing too crazy as it's been a while since I had powersterring etc so just getting used to it again lol. Just spent the day clening polishing etc and it's looking pretty sweet!! One thing I will say is the hot air in the cabin ain't as hot as it was! Just today it's a lot cooler probably a thermostat as it was fine the first couple of days I owned it. Where is the stat on one if these??

Thanks in advance

Check your history too, mate. If the car didn't have an autotensioner at 62k, then you may be skating on very thin ice. We had one fail this month, which is currently being fixed by Vtecdirect, to my knowledge. :agree:

Definitly change it mate - Teach sells genuine parts cheaper than honda and im sure he can post them to you!

I didnt even drive mine until i had the cambelt/balance belt/tensioners/water pump done as it snapped on a mates one (which i now own!)

I'd definitly advise getting it changed sooner rather than later and sometimes, when the tensioner lets go, they can sound like diesel so just be weary on that but sometimes, they let go without any notice.

Get some pics up :D
