Just a quick 'hello'. :)

Have joined to find out more about the ATR. Would be a second car to an Aygo daily driver. Have previously had R33 Skyline GT-R, MX-5, 190E 2.3-16, X1/9, and misc more ordinary cars.

Am in two minds - partly because the local Honda centre (Ipswich) were pretty lazy with a Civic I had. And I don't think there are many Honda-savvy independents hereabouts. Test drive will be the ulitmate test, of course. :)

Will most likely be looking for an early facelift ATR, with FSH and as low miles and high spec as I can find.

Will try to do enough searching that I'm not just another silly FAQer. ;)

Welcome Posted Image

Most people keep clear from Honda dealers with their ATR's, most probably because the guys who knew them back in the late 90's don't work for dealers anymore :) Find a localish recommended performance garage or enjoy a day with Andy (VTECDirect) or Paul, or any of the guys here that are willing to help out for a few beer tokens Posted Image

Also have a read of the Buyers Guide sticky post, which can be found somewhere on here :D

Thanks for the warm welcome. :)

Not rushing at anything yet - have been browsing the buyers guide for must-check issues. And (like most of us with a car habit :) ), I first have some cars to clear from the drive before buying the ATR). Was also considering the Altezza but have decided to avoid a rare car with so little spares availability.

I'm in Woodbridge (near Ipswich), so an Essex based specialist (maybe even NE London) would be OK, too.

My ATR is currently waiting for me in Woodbridge in the previous owners parents garage!

Should be picking it up next week - fingers crossed - been waiting long enough!

Good luck with your search :)

Skip - hope your car's everything you expect and more. :)

Don't need a Honda specilist for the ATR. Just a garage with a reputaion for good work :agree:

Cool - quite a few ATRs in the area then. Is there ATR club etiquette when seeing other ATR drivers on the road? Excited pointing and waving? Exagerrated headlamp flashing? Or just a subtle nod of the head? ;)

fordham - thanks for the offer. May take you up on it. Planning on a test drive of the silver 2000 ATR at Top Gear in Colchester W611SLE. 109,000m only part-SH and £3495. I'll drag myself along there this weekend or early next week. Still not decided on colour (and have the usual suspicions about red paint fading).

antiricer - yes the 190E was a 'Cosworth'. Didn't run right and turned out to be a bag of bits (top-end rebuild required). Still have a couple of 190Es though - got a soft spot for them.

I prefer the "stop on a dime, leap out and bare your bottom" approach... but a flash and a wave is good enough Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Always a good idea to look out from forum stickers on the car too... then you know it's probably someone on here. There is also a "Spotted" section on the forum here, which people post which ATR's they've seen on their travels and the owners get all warm and fluffy knowing they've been seen.... Posted Image

Excited pointing and waving, due to rarity. :agree:
