Hi
Might be the oldest ATR owner on here at age 42 !? Please don't call me dude...

Have owned a couple of new shape Honda Tourer diesel estates, a great car, and recently sold my 91' Mazda MX5 so wanted something cheap, quick and reliable thus bought a 95k mile late 51 plate accord type r.Full Honda History. Are the majority of ATR owners less than 25 ? I feel like my mid life crisis is happening all over again, with my wife and daughter asking me why had purchased a boy racers car, FFS !

Any way some questions that my new learned friends can answer:
i will be removing the rear spoiler so does anyone know if Honda make blanking plates?I also thought Hondas were bombproof but reading various threads on here looks like the gearboxes are all made of chocolate? Is my late (Oct) 51 plate likely to be ok?Having just bought it I had it serviced (major with new tyres) yesterday at my local garage where I am able to watch them work on the car and when they drained the gearbox oil it looked like new, literally not coloured at all.The mechanic said it did not need changing but I got them to refill with Silkolene anyway.I have to say that gear change is fine if a little wholly and long winded compared to the mazda with its very short and precise if slightly notchy when cold change.I have done the vtec zone and change from 3rd to 5th and all is well.Do they just let go or do you get a warning and what can I do to prevent what seems to be an inevitable issue.incidentally phoning my local Honda dealer prior to purchase and they stated that this model had no known common faults?
Discs and pads are quite new but handbrake is weak unless you try and rip the lever from the console?
A little clutch squawk on take up in first?Done the usual 4th gear, handbrake on trick and it stalled the engine so perhaps tired but ok?

Fantastic build quality- better than my last 2 Honda tourers I would say?

Any other things i should look out for any tips etc?

My best wishes...

Leave the wing buddy!

And welcome most members are late 20' - 40 so don't worry about age :)

And they are ALL technically able to get synchro issues but don't get too worried

get some pictures up

Leave the wing on it's part of what makes a type r an R without they look even shiter than they already do. :agree:

most owners range from early 20's to 50's (my dads 53)

It's an Accord, so it will always be an old man's car ;)

Keep the spoiler too, the 6th gen isn't the best looking accord and it looks rather dull without it.

Oh, and I'm 41...

Welcome along! Leave the wing, it's all part of the car's appeal.

If you really feel you need to lose the wing, you could replace with the smaller Accord Sport boot spoiler.
