i agree with Paul....

there's nothing worse than seeing some new fella breaking an ATR having 25 posts for free.... it's a car technically at the end of the day...

loads on here, the likes of Tim above should be an exception, the car they loved ruined, ..... contributed to the forum and deserve a little bit of slack....

TBH, Paul paying the Trader's Fee's in the first place was a bit excessive IMO .... was never a company, just a joe soap..... plus his prices for parts were cheap too........

But for me where i was selling a few bits, after breaking my atr i posted up parts with cheap prices, and i also gave bits to some members for free, even though i was asking a couple of quid. So if i had to pay £99, i would have been £99 out of pocket to give away stuff, that makes no sense. Where as i just wanted rid of the stuff and help other members out of what they needed (except noel atm  ) but where if i had to post items out i was asking just for the postage to be covered.

But i do agree with paul, that if someone wants to break a car they should pay at least the minimum of a years subscription, as if i was a trader i would feel a bit cheese'd off that i would have to pay to do what others are getting for free.

another forum i frequent uses the 50 post rule, seems to work well enough to scare the quick buck makers off.

no one can sell anything until they have made 50 posts :?:

I agree that new members shouldn't be allowed to post breaking threads for free without giving anything back to the forum.

Instead of a minimum number of posts, My suggestion would be the following

1) Long term paid up members of 6 months or more (Regardless of subscription) that have their pride and joy smashed up - Free to break their pride and joy
2) Long term members (none paid) that have their pride and joy smashed up - Gold Subscription Fee
3) New members of less than 6 months (with paid gold membership) - Pay a One off Fee of £50
4) New members of less than 6 months (with no paid membership) - Pay £25 Gold membership, and one off £50 fee as above
5) Breaking more than one car - Usual Traders fee applies

To me, with the amount of general chat conversations on the forum, it wouldn't be hard to accumulate 25 or 50 posts within a very small space of time (especially if it dodges a large fee). If its time based, there's no dodging possible as it goes against your account date.

I think to an extent there are still discretions that could be made by Ed (ie if for 5 months a member talks of their pride and joy and how they're looking after it, and then suddenly its totalled, Ed should have the say on whether the £50 fee should be wavered or not)

Just my thoughts of course.

I agree with all the above bar any one selling there own smashed up car paying the 50 bit old or new but gold membership yes .

But if there is a fee applied, that may put people off putting things up for sale/breaking, and they will just go on another forum to sell them, without a fee, and our members won't get helped out etc.

That sounds like a bit of a nightmare!

I like the idea of 50 posts to sell anything, means you've made the effort to be part of the forum before throwing your stuff up for the vultures. Of course being subscribed bypasses that. :)

As for breaking cars, instead of making it overly complex perhaps just ask that members are subscribed and if they are new members with less than 50 posts they pay a bit more?

Having had my car written off 5 months after buying I was tempted to break and sell up on here. Thinking I could buy another car with the insurance adding to the payout with money from breaking. As said before Insurance company's rip you off. My car was up for 2.4k then 5 months later its olnly worth £1750? It was done it July and the car was in a car park. If I hadn't been able to borrow money off family to repair I would have had to break and with a fee I wouldn't have been able to do so on here.

You should bear in mind that the forum is to help people is it not? Ebay do free listing weekends alot so someone breaking a car would just use that and not the forum with the knowledge they wouldn't pay unless parts sold. If you had to pay up front on here you wouldn't be sure parts would sell and just be out of pocket.I agree a subscription should be required to sell on here and some moderation with regards to breaking cars. If it's someone who has been on here and been unlucky with their car no fee's should apply. If someone is clearly buying write offs to break and sell then a fee should be charged. Posting count is a good idea but I've seen on other forums that just creates loads of rubbish posts where as a paid subscription would show genuine interest.

Exactly - the last thing I want is for it to be a kick in the teeth to a member who has just lost their pride and joy.

As you say requiring a membership/subscription is more than enough for a genuine member and moderation should be applied when someone just pops up/registers to make money from us all - they should be easy to spot. :agree:

Whatever the outcome, just make them pay to break cars. Whatever the amount, they should pay something.

If they don't, its not fair and not right - period.

The forum has gone down the bloody pan :-(

No it hasn't, it's just changed, old members have left because they have sold/written off their car and new members have arrived because they've done the opposite!

Stop being overly nostalgic, forums have cycles as does ownership, people come and go and with it they bring change. :agree:
