Hi everyone, new to the forum and Honda's (well, the cars anyway). I've always had old BMW's when
it comes to cars but fancy a change. I think the ATR (see, picking up the lingo) fits the bill nicely! :toothy7:

I'll go through the forums and hoover up as much information as I can and try not to ask dump questions.

I do have one though, I've got £2k, is that going to buy me a serviceable 99-00 ATR?

Anyway Hello! I'll sign up to be a full member soon and hopefully get a nice ATR and attend some meets
once I've shifted the Beemer. :)

Hi. :)

Thanks, had a good read, I think making sure the gearbox is sound is my only major concern.
Changing the cam belt tensioner is probably just about within my abilities. :confused2:
The more I see ATR's in Pirates black the more I want to buy one. ^^

It's okay to spend £2000 on an Accord, but it's wise to have spare cash available for parts that can (and probably will) go wrong on a 12 year old sports saloon. :agree:

The only part of the car that seems to be bulletproof is the LSD.

What old BMW's did you have? I'm quite a fan of late 1990's BMW's like the E39 535i/540i, the E36 328i and the M cars. They seemed to build some good driver's cars during that period. :agree: I still have a soft spot for the 840Ci. I love that V8 engine.

Hi guys! :hello2:

Thanks for the welcome.

I'll try a few ATR's before I buy then, to hopefully avoid a nail.

Might do my old trick of going to see a mint one well out my price range at a dealer, so I know what a good one should drive like. :evil4:
I usually also bring my car savvy friend too, as I tend to get 'new car fever' when I go look at cars I really want. :confused2:

Hi ya, I'm on my third e36 323 at the moment. All three have been driven into by someone within 2 months of me having them though.. Must be BMW's cloaking device. Thought I'd try a different marque, to see if people stop using me for target practice!

I do love 90's BMW's always had a soft spot for the e34/e39 5's and I love the 8! I dream of a Alpina B12 5.7. :love10:

Hi! I picked up my 2001 facelift with 100k on the clock for £2100 a couple of weeks ago. Its not mint by any means but its mechanically good just some paint I need to address. Be careful which car you buy, badly serviced ones will most probably be a money pit!

I remember doing a Pre-Delivery Inspection on an 8 series when they were new. Absolutely stunning car to look at when it was brand new. :)

Hi guys! :)

Great, I've got my own lock up and tools so I don't mind a bit of maintenance or paint/cosmetics.
I don't think I've ever brought a car that didn't need a few bits sorting once I got it home and
had a good poke about. So long as nothing big and expensive lunches itself as soon as I get it!

PDI'ing 8 series must have been a nice job! I used to PDI motorcycles, which wasn't quite as
glamorous. :p

PDI was much nicer & cleaner than doing oil changes and constantly mopping up oil spillages. :crybaby:

Definitely! Sometimes I miss being a mechanic, most of the time I don't. :D
