Hi,

I'm Andrew, i'm here to find out as much as I can about ATR's, and maybe even take advantage of the For Sale section in the near future.
My car history largely comprises of larger capacity BMW straight sixes and a Subaru, but currently i've got a little Mazda MX5/Eunos.

I do love my Mazda, but a recent borrowing of a mates CRX (and a complete lack of practicality) has brought me here!

Looking forward to learning what to look for, and hopefully cementing my interest in the car!

Where are you located?

If your down my way ill show you mine and take you for a VTEC.

I have had mine for 6 years and have never looked back despite spending quite a bit on her due to the lack of care she had before.
1998/99, H22A, Red, Solid-Fabrications 2.25" Tri-Y 4-2-1 manifold, Cat back system, K&N Typhoon, HEL Braded Brake Lines, Polybush Engin Mount, Ferodo DS2500 Pads Front and back. To get: Bremtec drilled and groved Discs, Strut bar upper and lower.

Hello and welcome.

Check out the buyers guide but remember that it is a few years old and so rust in certain places are starting to show due to age. :(

Also tell us where you are and like Dan I'm sure an owner will take you for a spin. ;)

Welcome - I was in your position for a couple of weeks and found one I liked. As above, just check buyers guide out and have a look around the arches/chassis legs/boot/sills for rust. Check out gearbox crunching as mentioned in guide and go for one with as much service history as possible. I hopefully collect mine this week :-)

Thanks guys! Updated my location, always forget that bit! My budget probably leans more towards an earlier car, so i'm particularly interested in the gearbox issue and how often it occurs...

Is it likely to affect all pre-facelift cars at some point, or is it more of a "used and abused" kind of issue?

It will effect ALL pre's and some early Facelifts. but it all depends on how the gearbox has been treated. But if its not been done then I would budget that in when looking at a car. You might get lucky but its better to be fore warned than it come as a nasty surprise....

I always thought this 5th gear issue was a myth. Mine was 15 years old and on 100k by the time I sold it and it never had the 5th gear synchro done, not by a previous owner or me. Never once crunched into 5th?

My advice would be, if it doesn't crunch on the test drive, look after it with regular gear box oil changes and don't be heavy handed with it :agree:
