I was filling up yesterday as you do and in next to me roars a lovely V plate ATR in the fastest colour (PB naturally) So I start chatting to the guy and it turns out he's not a forum member (not his scene) but he works at a company called Advanced Motorsport Engineering. Turns out he bought the car for £1500 and its got a full set of Rays on it too :salute:

Then proceeds to tell me the car is running an AEM stand alone ECU and should I be interested that's what they do. Its also running full TEIN EDC set up and decat. Sounds amazing as he pulls off. Its amazing who you meet in garages these days :laughing8:

Is this a similar arrangement to the P28/S300 with obd1 conversion, 2 wire iacv etc, or an easier/cheaper route, Pete?

Correct me if I'm wrong pete far as I'm aware its a straight plug in to the obd2 and can be mapped, its not like the p28 where you got to change all the other stuff just to get the car going I've been told not everyone can map the AEM like the p28 thats about much as i know toyracer care to elaborate?

The AEM is a direct fit ( IE Plug and Play) so uses all of the OBD2 sensors, etc and is mappable... ;)

Picking it up from Brands this Sunday. Then I need to get the money together, probably from selling my EDFC set up, to pay for the mapping. :D

How much will all this cost Pete.

The p28 route is near £1500 from memory, so is it much of a saving?

I'm getting the ECU for £300 second-hand. And then its just the mapping on top which should be similar again. ;)

I thought going the P28 route was nearer a grand? :dunno:

That's a great price. Had a quick look at the AEM ecus and from I can tell they are near £1k. Let me know if there are any more for sale ;)/>

Yeah sorry, £1500 for the p28 route was with Skunk 2 pro cam gears and all the mods needed to fit.

I want mine remapped but will need spare cash first. Coilies first, that will be soon so that's a big wad of cash taken care of. Two new tyres being fitted tomorrow. Also think I've got a slight leak on one the exhaust valves, so that will be an expensive fix when the time comes.

From memory, it was something like £500 for the p28, conversion harness and Hondata from h-tune. Rich at Performance Autoworks would then fit everything, including 2 wire iacv, erg blanking plate and get it remapped for around £600.

Cam gears and the modifications to the head/cam, fitting etc was around £500.

This was a couple of years back that I looked into it, but that it is what I can remember.

I'm sure Rich at PA will give you some upto date proper prices if you were serious about it, or Andy at Vtec Direct if you are nearer. Rich is only down the road from me though, so I leave my car in his capable hands.

The AEM sounds like a good alternative though without the messing around with obd1.

Just checked, P28 & Hondata is now £577 plus another £69 for the conversion harness. http://h-tune.co.uk/...28-ecu-package.

From memory, Rich reckoned I could see 235/240bhp with my current mods + more with cam gears as he has seen good results with the solid fans manifold. It was more about usable power delivery and making the car feel like how Honda should have made it though.

Right spoke to Rich this morning said I'll be looking around £1200 for everything map s300 cam gears iacv etc, if i want to go down changing the cams, valves, springs, retainers etc I'll be looking around 3k including the map does this sound about right? There so many routes you can go with he explained in regards to power and what you want its kind of made it hard to make my mind up what i want to do???

Pete he also said the AEM does not have as much option and potential as the p28 said something along the lines that the p28 has more potential and mapping choices this shit is confusing lol
