1999 Honda Accord Type-R

For sale is my Accord Type-R. Iíve owned the car for about 2 and a half years and Iím only selling as I now have an EP3.

* I had initially advertised the car at £3,700 and have now reduced my asking price down to £2,800. Not only is there a significant price reduction but I have just carried out a cambelt change along with a manual tensioner conversion. Iíve also addressed a previous engine management light issue.

Iíd like to think Iíve looked after the car and that itís a healthy example. The car is in great condition given its age and doesnít suffer from the typical issues that plight ATRs. Thereís plenty of paperwork and has been maintained very well throughout its life including a fair bit of work under my ownership.

Thereís lots of service and maintenance history. Iíve highlighted below the main items of work carried out whilst Iíve had the car.

VTEC Direct Ė September 2017

- Bulkhead; remedial work carried out to rot
- Boot floor; rot cut out and treated
- Driverís footwell area treated
- Power steering cooler and front towing point treated and coated
- Battery tray; rot cut out and treated
- Fully re-undersealed
- Valve clearances
- Remove EGR plate and clean
- Spark plugs including seals
- New rocker cover including gasket
- Clutch fluid change
- Coolant flush
- Fuel filter
- Headlight leveller bar
- Brake fluid
- Alternator belt
- Power steering belt
- HEL clutch line
- Lower suspension arm x 2
- Upper suspension arm x 2
- NSF Inner CV boot
- OSF lower ball joint
- Alignment
- Compression test: 210-220 psi across all cylinders
- Leak down test: results came back healthy
- Camera inspection of bores: no scoring, bore wash etc.
- And a few other miscellaneous items

Other maintenance and work carried out under my ownership

- Lots of servicing including but not limited to regular oil and filter changes, gearbox oil changes etc.
- Crankshaft oil seal (gearbox side)
- Driveshaft seals
- Primary and secondary lambda sensors
- Repair faulty OSR door handle
- New Yuasa battery
- Brake upgrade to Mtec discs and metal sintered CL pads all round
- Brand new wheel bearings all round
- Repair ABS sensor
- OEM wheels refurbished and painted grey
- Brand new Advan AD08R tyres all round
- Brand new 3Ē custom exhaust system

As you can see from the above maintenance Iíve spent a fair amount of time and money trying to keep the car as healthy as I can. That included a trip to ATR specialist VTEC Direct in Cheshire where a decent amount of work was carried out. Since that trip Iíve only done just over 2,000 miles. In fact Iíve done no more than 5,000 miles since purchasing the car. Of course thereís plenty of other history prior to me buying the car including work carried out to repair the 5th gear synchro, clutch, flywheel, engine mount etc. This was also carried out by VTEC Direct.

Being a 20-year-old car thereís the odd niggle. There is a spec of rust on the NSR arch which Iíve tried to picture Ė this is outer side only as internally itís solid. I must stress this car has no rot anywhere underneath or structurally within areas such as the bulkhead etc. Only a slight bit of corrosion on the outside arch. The paintwork doesnít need any immediate attention but isnít concours either. Iíd say itís half decent give how old the car is and can still clean up nicely.

Iíve mainly driven the car in summer only as I would rather it isnít exposed to salty roads. During the colder seasons itís stored in a purpose-built temperature and humidity controlled facility.

Iíve just very recently given the car a fresh MOT, oil service, cambelt change plus manual tensioner conversion. Itís good to go for its new owner. Iím also confident the car is pretty much ready to go on track, given for example, the brake setup which stops this ATR very, very well.

Thereís also the possibility that I can arrange for the car to be inspected on a ramp Ė I canít make any promises though. Good ATRs are dwindling in numbers and Iím confident this is one of them.
