Error on forum Working to fix

IPB WARNING [2] session_start() [function.session-start]: open(/tmp/sess_f839cbd158389a252608ff7e919f6a47, O_RDWR) failed: No space left on device (28) (Line: 284 of /index.php)

The above error is sat at the very top of the page, I believe it's stopping IE users from even accessing the site!

Right now I haven't a clue what it is or where it came from. :lol:

The tmp directory is full and it's stopping sessions being created IE doesn't enjoy that, it appears Firefox users can carry on regardless... :lol:

I've logged a fault with the host to clear the folder down as I don't have access from work.

The forum uses MySQL right?

MySQL creates all temporary files as hidden files. This ensures that the temporary files will be removed if the server dies. The problem is that you will not see a big temporary file that fills up the filesystem. My guess is thats what's happened now and the partition has filled up.

can you check the partitions on the server? maybe you can clean it out or change where the files are stored to a bigger part of the filesystem.

I had this very fault all day yesterday- very annoying and only on this site. :evil:

I would imagine the host got a mailbox of emails from other users about it and resolved it.

Just my server, I asked them to clear down the tmp directory.

They also made some changes to stop it happening in the future, perhaps setup a scheduled purge or alert.

Generally speaking I have 24/7 365 access to this site both from work and home. I can produce logs that say the server has been up for over a year without issue, not even need a reboot. 8)
