Hi all.

Went to look at a 2000 ATR in silver today.
I managed to stay surprisingly calm and not get too carried away, but I've been wanting one of these since they came out!
It had a nice interior, lots of service history and all the wear and tear stuff has been done recently.
But I looked for rust in the usual spot (there is some on the N/S/R arch which I'm not bothered about) and there is a fist sized amount of rust on the bulkhead above right of the throttle pedal mounting.
Can anyone give any advice as to how much this will cost to have sorted properly and recommend anywhere which may do it?

Thanks, Stuart.

Thank you.

The advert was on eBay but it's gone now...
But the car is still available, who knows what's happened there.
I'm in the North West but I made an offer based on the condition described, and would like to know a rough price for that work so I can make a fair offer taking that in to account.
He's owned it for 11 years and a Dr owned it (from Honda demo) since 2001 before him.

Hello and welcome.

As to how much it will cost is all down to how much rust will need to be removed. Unfortunately until its started then you can nor really say... :(

Thanks.

We had agreed a price, and I was just looking for a rough idea so I can amend my offer accordingly.
Not looking to screw him over or the like but it’s just something I’m going to have to take in to consideration when it comes to making a firm offer.

Thanks, Stuart.

Well we agreed a price, so I should be collecting this weekend, all being well.
Will post some pictures at some point.

Greetings and welcome :hello2: :agree:

Where abouts are you based in the north west?

Be interesting to see some pics of the car ;) there are still a few people from the old days like me that lurk on here and going by the previous owner history it rings a bell with me certainly the doctor bit.

Just be careful of the bulk head rot as it can and has claimed a few ATR's over the years, if you dig around here you will see and read about some nasty examples if gone unchecked.
As for rectification I've heard its a dash out job and cost wise can be around the £1k mark although that was some time ago and posted by V-tec direct based in Winsford Cheshire.

Thanks.

Hopefully manage a photo or two this weekend.
I’d imagine it is a dash out job to do properly but I wonder if I can manage to do it without.
I am a truck mechanic so worst case scenario I could give it a try myself.
Or even worse case scenario, smoke around in it for a year or so (and this’d be a shame to do), then break it for spares if needs be.
I’m about 5 miles away from Scotland, so well and truly NW.
Will do some more research for a specialist to quote.

Thanks, Stuart.

I am the new owner. Only the third since it was made.
Drove it home over the weekend and it was a great experience.

I’m hardly used to silly modern cars but this definitely felt very analogue.
Steering and brakes both need a decent bit of effort and even the throttle needs a good poke.
But the engine just absolutely sings.

I’ll get some photos up at some point.

Congrats on the purchase! They are lovely cars! Maintain them well and they'll go for years! I've had mine for more than 10years!

I need to find somewhere to look at the bulkhead corrosion - want it sorting before it ends up with a hole.
May well end up doing it myself if needs be.

Had it for a couple of weeks now and I'll make a start on the 'improvements' in the new year probably.
Full service, any knocks/bangs etc - just go over it with a fine tooth comb!

Glad you got it in the end, Take the arch liners off and get a good look behind there, also check under the scuttle panel and have a good look where the front subframe bolts on.
Some have had issues with rust behind the wing mirrors some noticing rust on the boot lid where the rear spoiler fits onto and many other places. I hope it all goes well and it's not to bad.

It’ll probably be a ‘breaking for spares’ job if I really have to if it can’t get through an MOT without sensible expense but touch wood we won’t end up at that stage,
There is definitely corrosion under the seal near the drivers mirror though.
Maybe get it on the ramp at work this weekend.
