:hello2:

3K budget? I would get an Accord. If you get an M3, it really will be rock bottom price. Although 3K for an ATR is still low, its not bottom price.

Totaly unbiased of course

greetings :hello2: and welcome :agree:

nice 850T5 nearly bought a C70 T5 GT myself and as they share the same tubo charged 2.3 ltr engine i know they are quick in a straight line and can be mapped to well over 300 bhp :agree:
although sadly the oem handling and weight mean they corner like a boat :sad5:

you definately need to drive an ATR or at least get a ride in one, i know you mentioned your brothers EP3 CTR but they are no way a comparison to our ATR's :sad3: dont get me wrong they are a nice little hot hatch but a different ball game to us uber R barges

3K and your volvo :love10: you can have my ATR

now there's a tempting offer as i'm selling my volvo for 3k and it'd save a lot of hassle! thing is though i've already agreed with someone on that price and you have no idea what you'd be getting!

the ABS doesn't work nor the alarm. it's got scratches on the right rear where some plonker (me) didn't see there was a big stone pillar on his own drive that he had used for the last 10-15 years and nothing had changed in that time. i blame lack of sleep on that particular morning!

they're the bad things, the good things are the mod list is bloody long and it's definetly one of the quicker volvos out of those still on a volvo turbo(can't compete with the garrett guys).

just a very brief outline

18T turbo, ported head, throttle body and manifold, white injectors, decat, apexi avcr, uprated anti roll bars and links, front strut brace, lower front and rear brace, ATE heico four pot calipers with 325mm discs and carbotech xp-8 pads front and back etc etc etc etc

tbh, when it was standard it was most definetly a boat. the first bend i ever tried to attack (a roundabout) i nearly had to abort going for the second exit and take the first!! but with the mods now it corners very flat and hard, it's just the exits where the lack of an LSD really shows.

have to admit, when the time comes, i'll probably keep my eyes out for an M3 but i can feel myself definetly leaning towards the ATR. bastids!! :agree:

for anyone interested i've only been to the ring twice, i'm not quick by any means, quickest lap so far is a 9 min 30 and was hoping to break into the eights this year if i went. just because i wanted to doesn't mean it'd happen obviously but have to aim for something!

here's a short vid chasing a new M3 at the ring

http://www.youtube.c...h?v=uv3Nnw5aRXw

btw timboland, it's a can of worms with regards to mapping an otherwise standard car up to 300bhp or over. on a dyno like the maha you'd probably get 270-280 odd, less on a dyno dynamics whereas you'd probably get that at the wheels on a dynojet. can of worms....

thanks for the welcome guys :agree:

i've actually spoken to a friend and he's gonna let me drive an EP3 civic type R. should be fun and i imagine quite comparable.

Sadly the EP3 and ATR aren't comparable. The ATR has vtec, the CTR has i-vtec, the ATR has an LSD, the CTR doesn't, the ATR has double wishbones all round the CTR doesn't, the ATR has proper power steering the CTR has numb electric, the ATR has recaros as standard the CTR doesn't ............ the list goes on.

One thing I would say is you definietly sound like you know what your talking about with cars but even so you won't be able to jump in the ATR and drive it quickly. Its utterly engaging to drive but you need to learn gear change points from the sound of the engine revs, otherwise you'll always be looking at the rev counter.

lol@robin!

little legs, thanks for the compliment but you have no idea! i've learnt a lot from forums and friends so maybe sound like i know what i'm talking about but when it comes down to actually doing any work on the car i have my tail between my legs and run to someone who knows what they're doing!!

good points regarding the CTR, tbh for me i just want to get into a naturally aspirated car and see how it feels. i do know that turbos "feel" quicker then they actually are and i think the CTR will give me a better clue then for example driving just a normal run of the mill car.

i've even stopped looking at the M3 tbh, pirates black ATR would do me nicely. pain to clean though, maybe i'll go for the red one cos it looks so right. then again, the silver one would be good as it can just blend into the background which would be nice. decisions decisions 8)

edit. btw and i'm not sure if i'm breaking any rules here but if anyone needs a mechanic that knows what hes doing, i mean really knows what hes doing(he ported my head for me at better then mates rates), a volvo dealership trusts his work and word and you don't mind travelling to leicestershire i can put you in touch with a guy whose attention to detail is absolutely staggerring. he also recently done the belts for someone with an ATR if that helps.

I had a 14a 200. Great cars. Volvo aint too shabby either 8)

But with the above. EP3 isnt really a true type-r and doesnt give you much of an indication that its a peformance car. ATR and ITR are in a different playing field by far :agree:

i'm shouting!! :hello2:

i'm in sudbury town, i'll happily take you out for a spin in the volvo if you want and i'm off for a couple of days as well. go back on the 1st :sad5:

fwiw ring times imo are all about the driver. i've only been twice and driven 18 laps so while maybe not a complete newbie am far from some kind of ring expert.

first time i went i got tuition from a guy called dale at RSR and that helped a massive amount and managed a sub 10 minute. believe me guys, sub 10 minute is not hanging around so all those guys that do 8 minute laps get hooooooooge respect from me.

fwiw one of my favourite ring vids, a pug 306 vs the ringtaxi(with passengers obviously) but it really highlights the power vs weight argument. enjoy!

ah a DC2 cool yeah its very similar to a DC2 :agree: and although the DC2 boys protest Sebastien Loeb took the ATR around the track quicker than the DC2 in a head to head.
