from my point of view being a non paying member this idea doesnt sit well with me.
Surely if i have something to sell it would only benefit the members on here?
what are you gaining by making people pay to sell something, its not as if there isnt alot of places to sell Honda bits, people will just go elsewhere surely? :)

well what would be fair??? what about being a member to garner the group buy dicounts??....

would'nt it be unfair to the paying members that all they get is the members lounge :dunno:
just a point to ponder Chris

Dont have a paying membership?
Have a donation tool instead. Get the traders to pay for advertising?

You are right in the fact that paying members should get more than the members lounge though. However only getting the members lounge surely would have been known before people parted with there money?

This is a bad idea. :!:

Everything will be sold on ebay, ebay will make a fortune and less people will bother visiting the forum. :-(

I think it sucks to penalise non-members. More carrot, less stick. :agree:

i t dosen't look like they're gonna charge any way but if you use paypal/ebay you're gonna get charged at least 4% and if you want an auction this is no place for that. i belive you have craigslist for those who want to advertise for free right. people will still saell on here as it is a direct market.. imean when it the last time someone sold a pug part on here??

And thats the reason i would do it. being able to post in the for sale section would probably not pursuade me to pay a subscription fee.

Donation tool - have a link AND section of the site were you can just donate to the forum should you wish.

Another point is, wheres the advertising of the membership fee? Theres tons of space on th forum to advertise it, why is it not being pushed more? More club money - more members - more options.

Exactly my point in a round about way, just not here. how many people on here use other HONDA forums though, i use at least 2 others and pistonheads which IS free.
this forum isnt the be all and end all for buying ATR/honda parts. at least not in my eyes it isnt, due to the limited numbers of ATR's left not alot of stuff comes up for sale. well not compared to say the ITR forum anyway.

good point :agree: my intent with this whole thing was to get the negitivity out of the forum, and my biggest pet peve is the forsale section violations. but it'd be nice for the forum to generate som small amout of revenue to those unwilling to subscribe.... i dunno how you do it over there but here when you subscribe to a magazine you pay less than the cover price, hence thos ewho are only intrested kin a certain article at a certain time . making the subscription price lower.

No i agree Mike, you have only good intentions, im just unsure if your suggestion will work, theres very few for sale items on here and personally it wouldnt pursuade me to pay. Id rather donate purely for the help ive recieved from other members. including youself in that list.

Donation tool does work but only if you push it like say after Japfest or the Trackday in june.

Is money made from the club stickers and club calenders?

how much money is the club looking to generate? what is it needed for? why have a paying membership in the first place should be the initial questions.

I still don't get it. :dunno:

If you make somebody pay £20 (or whatever it costs now) to become a member. The first thing they will do is try to recoup the outlayed money by upping the price on the items for sale.... :dunno:

How can any good come from this? :?:

They are run by other members. I doubt any money is made and if so, it will be negligable. :agree:

do you not have a trader who sells stickers? you should get them at near cost and add a couple of quid on for each sticker.

The same should go for the calenders.

How much money does the club need? or need per year?

No money is made by the club, merchandise is created by members for members, I have no hand in it.

It's not free to run a club, I just spent nearly £200 on a license for the new forum software and add-ons, it also costs staff time, I did have the intention of sorting out a proper event each year with member fees even if it were just a BBQ at Japfest with awards for cars etc. Make the club feel more like a club and not just an online community. Easier said than done of course. :agree:

No thats kinda what i meant Ed. It should be run with a small profit in mind, that way if you fall short of your target you should always break even. What happens when the club needs lets say a new banner or a site update? You should have some club money available to do that and it shouldnt just come out of your pocket as thats unfair. I was asking as you need to know what your looking at to cover the basics.

OK so, merchandise. Members who create merchandise should, like you Ed, be breaking even and covering any costs they may incur. Say per calender the costs are £2 to make, member who helped create calender has £1.50, club takes £2 and P&P is £1.50, or along those lines. That is how it should work and does work on the site im involved with. It may only be a small help but if you sell 10 calenders then thats £20 not coming from your personal pocket. The club should be supporting itself. Admin/mods put there own time and money into making the ATR forum/club what it is,. I havn't been on here too long but i know japfest wasnt organised by itself and neither is the trackday Rhys has sorted. The members who are creating the merchandise shouldnt be doing it for self profit but profit for the club.
A BBQ is a great idea, i know you've already done this before so why not add a small charge to help the club. I know if i went to a ATR organised event i would quite happily pay alittle more for some grub knowing its helping the club.
How much money have people saved from the advice theyve been given, the free "i'll pop round and help you if you want" or even from the traders? Some of that should be put back into the club.

As mentioned where is the advertisement for the current membership? What has the membership money been used for? Im not sure this is really for me to know but it should be open to the people that have paid so they are confident were the moneys going. Maybe it should be made available to everyone so that potential members know that if they joined there money was being well spent and it was for there benefit? I dunno, but its questions that need to be asked in the good of the club. :agree:
