I don't think it's too much to ask that posts are written in English. I'm guessing that most of us actually know how to do that. Some simply can't be bothered; others do it automatically.
As for moderators correcting lazy posts manually, I applaud them for it and for their use for discretion. "Wear n tear" might not be allowed. "Rock n roll" probably should be! And if the process is to be automated, how can I write that Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U" is one of my favourite songs?

I also believe that it's no more than good manners to proof read what you've written before pressing 'add reply'. Think of the written word as speech in code. If you were talking out loud and made a mistake, you'd no doubt put it right, wouldn't you? It's the same with texts or forum posts. The English language is a marvellous thing. Used correctly, it's a fabulous method of communication.

One other thing: if m8 and its brethren are too freely sprayed around, how can we tell when someone is playing with the language for effect?

Exactly, so adding a few of the most common ones so they're auto-corrected yet highlighted in bold would mean less work for you, less annoyance for everyone else that clicks 'View New Content' to see 5 threads of 'No text talk please'...

To me, it seems like a win win situation. :agree:

Then, you can even give people a proper bollocking when they manage to still slip some though... :evil4:

Got my vote, just need Ed to see if its available. :agree:/>

The problem is it allows people to be even more sloppy with their spelling and grammar.

Call me old fashioned but standards are slipping and the least we can do is [try and] uphold them.

I understand your point, but does it really matter though? Honestly I couldn't care less about whether people are literate, so long as what I am reading is understandable, and I don't need to scroll through pages of posts reminding people to spell properly.

I guess I could always put Toyracer on ignore... :evil4:

There is that option...

I might compile a list of common sloth words and add them, then. I'm still not happy in doing so because people shouldn't be so bloody lazy!

Ok give me a list of common abbreviations, I'm a bit behind the times when it comes to this 'txt talk' nonsense?

We need to keep "see you next time" from that list though.

Just make sure you add "payed".
